Women available: Vietnamese women trafficked to China
Lao Cai (Vietnam) (AFP) - When Kiab turned 16, her brother promised to take her into a party in a tourist village in northern Vietnam. He bought her to a Chinese family being a bride.
The ethnic Hmong teenager spent nearly monthly in China until she was able to escape her new husband, seek help from local authorities and come back to Vietnam.
"My brother is no longer a human being in my eyes -- he sold their own sister to China," Kiab, whose name has been changed to safeguard her identity, told AFP in a pound for trafficking victims within the Vietnamese border town Lao Cai.
Weak women in places close to China -- not only Vietnam but Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia and also North Korea -- are increasingly being forced into relationships in the area of the main one-child policy, experts say.
China suffers from among the worst gender imbalances in the world as individuals prefer male children.
Because of this numerous men today cannot locate Asian brides -- a vital driver of trafficking, based on rights groups.
The Lao Cai housing currently houses a dozen women from various ethnic minority groups. All say relatives, friends or boyfriends misled them and offered as brides to Chinese men.
"I'd heard a lot about trafficking. But I could not imagine it would occur to me," Kiab said.

Vietnamese girls are sold to brothels or for $5,000 as women, said Michael Brosowski, creator and President of Blue Dragon Children's Base, which includes recovered 71 trafficked women from China since 2007.
" people trick girls offering jobs, or posing as boyfriends. Those individuals do that very intentionally, as well as for nothing aside from greed and a shortage of human sympathy," he added.
It is likely that lots of the ladies wind up in brothels, but due to the stigma of being a sex-worker they will frequently record they were forced into marriage.
Communist neighbours China and Vietnam share a mountainous, rural line stretching 1,350 kilometres, marked mostly from the Nam Thi water and rife with smuggling of goods of types: live poultry fruit and women women.
"It's mostly women who reside in isolated and mountainous regions who are being trafficked throughout the edge, since there is no data for us," said 18-yearold Lang, from your Tay ethnic minority, who went over the frontier illegally and was sold into a Chinese family by a friend.
In northern Vietnam, trafficking is now so intense that areas claim they are residing in fear.
"I worry much about it, as do all of the parents within the neighborhoods, but it has occurred into a lot of women currently," said a community elder in the Red Dao ethnic minority group, Phan Pennsylvania May.
"I've one daughter. She is currently committed, but I'm worried about my granddaughter. We often ask where she is proceeding, and tell her to not talk around the trust or telephone anyone."

"There's nothing at home for these girls, not food to eat," said director Nguyen Tuong Long, discussing the terrible poverty that's another key driver.The shelter in Lao Cai opened in 2010 and has helped scores of female subjects.
Activists attempting to combat trafficking in Vietnam said police and regulators consider the issue " very seriously ".
May Na, in the Hmong ethnic minority, was 13 when her dad got her throughout the boundary and pushed her to marry a Chinese man.
"I couldn't accept it. They left me at home alone and I climbed on the wall and went away. I was walking for more than a time, lost, sleeping within the roads, crying," she said.
Ultimately, Na wound up at a police station, but it took police a month to figure out what had happened and return her to Vietnam -- because she spoke neither Chinese or Vietnamese -- only her native Hmong.
Today 16, Na -- the oldest of five kids -- is studying Vietnamese at the Lao Cai center. She's chosen to not come back to her own family, although her uncle has been charged, she said.
It was a painful experience for me," she said.
The federal government says it's presented education courses in rural areas, near the edge, notice girls not to trust outsiders.

In neighbouring Cambodia, there were some prosecutions, but An Sam Ath of rights group Licadho said the scourge is still happening, adding: "I'm worried the issue can spread."
Anti-trafficking organizations in Vietnam say it is difficult to warn women of the challenges when it is usually a family member or pal carrying out the fraud.
