Lao Cai (Vietnam) (AFP) - While Kiab made 16, her brother offered to take her to a party in a tourist town in northern Vietnam. He sold her like a bride to a Chinese family.

"my cousin is no more a human being within my eyes -- he sold their own cousin to China," Kiab, whose name has been transformed to guard her identity, told AFP inside the Vietnamese border town Lao Cai at a housing for trafficking victims.
Weak women in countries near to China -- not simply Vietnam but also North Korea, Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar -- are increasingly being pushed into marriages in the property of the one-child policy, experts say.
China is suffering from one of the worst gender imbalances on the planet as individuals prefer male children.
Consequently millions of guys currently can't find Chinese brides -- an integral driver of trafficking, in accordance with rights groups.
The Lao Cai protection currently houses several girls from different ethnic minority groups. All state relatives, friends or boyfriends tricked them and offered to Asian men as brides.

It is likely that lots of the girls find yourself employed in brothels, but due to the stigma of being a sex-worker they will often record they were forced into marriage.

"I have one daughter. She's already married, but I am concerned about my daughter. We often ask where she is planning, and tell her not to discuss to the trust or telephone anyone."

"There's nothing in the home for these ladies, not even enough food to consume," said manager Nguyen Tuong Long, talking about the terrible poverty that's another key driver.The refuge in Lao Cai it has helped scores of female victims and opened in 2010.
Activists attempting to combat trafficking in Vietnam said authorities and authorities consider the situation " very seriously ".
May Na, from the Hmong ethnic group, was 13 when her uncle forced her to marry a Chinese man and took her across the boundary.
"I could not accept it. They left me at home and I climbed within the wall and ran away. I was wandering for higher than a time, dropped, resting within the streets, crying," she said.
Eventually, Na finished up at a police station, but it got authorities per month return her to Vietnam and to determine what had happened -- since she spoke neither Chinese or Vietnamese -- only her native Hmong.
Today 16, Na -- the oldest of five children -- is studying Vietnamese in the Lao Cai heart. She has chosen not to go back to her own family, although her dad has been caught, she said.
It was a painful experience for me," she said.
The federal government says it's launched training programs in rural areas, near the edge, warning young girls not to trust outsiders.
The center director, long, says he feels the amount of cases is falling.
Anti-trafficking organizations in Vietnam say it is difficult to warn women of the risks when it's typically friend or a family member undertaking the deception.
They say there must be harsher penalties for traffickers -- including, as an example, prosecutions at regional level to raise awareness in towns of possible punishments from trying to deter people,
